Yes, I'm avoiding Russian roulette, hang gliding, Mavericks surfing competition, piloting single engine airplanes, sky diving, chain saw juggling and motor scooter riding these days.

To be honest what worries me more about motorcycling is not the getting killed part, it's the possibility of crippling injuries. I've had a close family member killed last year in a m/c head-on, car driver was convicted/found to be at fault.

Yup, mine too. I would use "beater" loosely though; my cars are all kept in very good condition.

We've got a 1996 Nissan Quest GXE as the family beater - it looks like a beater but it's in surprisingly good mechanical shape. I just redid all the coolant bypass hoses, valve cover gaskets, changed the fluids, replaced the AC hoses and accumulator, and threw on 2 Goodyear Assurance TripleTred tires - all by myself.

Gotta love working at a dealership.
