no worries about battery replacement etc.

I wish Lexus would introduce a V12 LS.
The LS 600HL has a 5.0, not 4.6 ...just sayin'

I think he's talking about the time it takes to go from 0-60.

Maybe I should have used a more accurate phrase. It didn't offer great value for the price paid IMO. It had similar performance numbers and features to the 750 yet at a very high sticker price of $116,000. I've spoke to one owner who used to own a '02 745i but traded that in for a newer '03 or '04 760Li. After a year or two of owning the 760Li, he said in hindsight he shouldn't have made that move and that it wasn't worth it. I've also read in several articles about the very negligible performance differences (because the added power is offset by the added vehicle and engine weight) and that you really only pay for the right of exclusiveness and being able to say, "I own a V12 BMW and its their flagship model" while sporting nice chrome V12 badges on the front fenders.

I'll go put on my flame suit now.

I just hope this new twin-turbo V12 760Li will offer car enthusiasts more tangible and intrinsic value.

Because the Lexus is different doesn't make it wrong...unfortunately you don't seem to grasp that concept. With that said this new 760 looks and sounds great. Can't wait to read some performance tests

There is a lot of garbage about people buying V12's just for the status... sure, there are some who do... but for anyone who wants as mechanically pure a drive train as you can get, there is nothing like a turbo charged V12 for smoothness, instant power delivery, and endless torque. A V8 feels like a tractor in comparison.

There are also a lot of false assumptions about the efficiency of the S600 compared to the LS600h. My (2008) S600 goes over 21 mpg on the freeway and I often get 17-18 mpg combined. Sure it depends on the individuals driving style and route, but the fuel consumption delta between the LS600h and the S600 is so small in similar driving profiles as to be meaningless for $100,000+ cars. You CAN have both a big super comfortable/luxury sedan and the performance of a sports car, but to date there has been no other competitor in this league. It's certainly not the the LS600h which is woefully slow and stodgy, which though its nomenclature and marketing so failed to compete with a real V12 sedan.

The new 760Li looks like the first viable competitor to the S600 - good on BMW!

I like the engine stats. 544hp is not bad and slots nicely in between the S600 and S65. I've seen one out on the road yesterday. Black with the dark multispoke wheels. Looked good, though the grill is a little to big IMO.

Status or no status. A V12 mercedes or BMW is a status symbol. There are very few cars up to this level of status, prestige and performance. A V12 car is simply on a whole different level than the V8 cars IMO.

No doubt about this.

I agree with you on this. While the LS600h is a very good vehicle it still is not a V12 no matter how someone compares it. To be honest it really is not in the caliber of cars such as the V12 Mercedes, BMW 760 or Audi W12...it fits in between the LS460 and the Mercedes S500 or BMW 760.

Even the S600 has 612 lb-ft torque @ 1,800-3,500 rpm though.
For S65 AMG, it's 738 lb-ft torque @ 2,000 - 4,000 rpm

^^^ Thats true. Totally forgot about that. Not like 553 lb-tq is small, but 612 and 738 is . I've driven a friends S600 last summer for awhile and thought it was a complete rocket for such a large heavy sedan. Smooth as ever, but not as quiet as I thought it would be, but IMO that was the best part. Absolutely awesome.

I've only driven the S63 AMG, & that thing sounds more like a sports car than a big luxury sedan

Mercedes is the horsepower king period.. Other makes require modifications to match or exceed the factory beasts from Mercedes.

^^ The old 760Li and A8 W12 are actually slower than even the LS600hL in 50-70 mph passing, so no competition with the S600 with the twin turbos ...

Man, I thought it was gonig to be the new generations in the video. Still nice though.

We also cant leave out Audi and Jaguar. Both will be redesigned soon as well with all aluminum bodies and chassis making them much lighter than the BMW and MB. And both will have comparable power as well, though Jag will most likely use the 510hp Supercharged V8.

Im actually greatly looking forward to what Jaguar has to offer with the new XJ. I've been greatly impressed with the XF.
