oh, one more thing....... if you're gonna copy the design, at least make the rear door handles not look like they're lower than the front. that thing looks lopsided

draw the line of S class. you get the same shape.

to me equus is a combination of S + LS + some maxima. rear is closer to maxima, front is more S than LS. i have absolutely no beef with the exterior styling. hyundai just played safe like what they did to genesis, and i don't blame them because they can't afford to design something too original yet. it's basically a stretched genesis with more masculine look with bit of azera lines. it's not as elegant as genesis, but it looks macho in real life with unmistakable 'i'm a flagship' stance. my only beef is the interior which looks good, but bit too outdated already.

So many styling cliches are shared by luxury car makers.

maybe it's the shape of the dash. LS has much more interesting shape.

Styling cues come from many places, some are just more noticible lol

If I remember correctly the LS dash is supposed to resemble some Japanese mask or something.

I think the Equas is very well done and it just makes me lol at Acura every time I think about. Hyundai is the more legitimate luxury brand.

Most likely most Genesis sedan buyers are upshifting (versus downshifting) from mundane sedans like Accords/Camrys/Altimas, etc.

when I see them on the road I feel that they are very nice looking sedans. I dont think there is a lot of " down shifting going on with buyers of the genesis.

I think Hyundai is more proud of their logo than they have a right to be. I do think it was a mistake not to put it on the Genesis, as I would think that Hyundai would want the world to know what they are capable of.

The yellow outlines are hardly definitive. Honestly, they could be from any of over a hundred different models. I do have to agree, though, the rear door handles, being lower from the belt line than the front, throws off the lines entirely. It ruins the flowing lines of the car.

The Equus will (probably) cost more than any current Acura product except (maybe) top-line RLs. (My guess is 50-55k). Hyundai, of course, is known for giving you a lot for your money. But, as I see it, that doesn't downgrade the RL in any way, with its SH-AWD and rock-solid, tank-like construction. The RL, in a number of ways, is far more impressive than its smaller TL and TSX brothers, especially in the interior. I agree with you that both the new TL and TSX are a little disappointing, except for the SH-AWD opton.

i love RL's interior, but exterior? it's atrocious. they actually made it worse.

i'm surprised to see 290 americans bought RL last month. must be a diehard acura fan to spend 50k on something that looks like that.

I've seen a few refreshed RL's on the road, and they dont look bad at all. Best looking car in Acura's line up hands down.

As far as the price, I hear they can be had for low 40ies with discounts. Its a great value for what you get. Drive one, you'll understand.

i've test driven the car. and i still think it's ugly. rear is not bad, but front is just flat out hideous to me. it just doesn't have the aura of a luxury like the others. i've owned 2 acuras(cls, MDX) and i really hate bashing acuras. but seriously, i really hate their new design direction.

and i agree with mike on build quality, but i think you should expect a near perfect build quality if you are spending 45-50k.

As I look at that picture of the RL, I expect it to transform into a robot at any moment. That front end is a look that only a mother could love.
The way I see it, Hyundai is on its way up, while Acura is going in the opposite direction. Acura use to be in the same position as Hyundai but Acura have made some key mistakes. We will see how Hyundai handle their climb to the top. Remember, the higher you go, the harder it gets.
