Tuk Tuk coming to U.S. - receives official DOT and EPA approval
Tuk Tuk North America has announced that the company’s vehicles have been granted both DOT and EPA approval. Soon enough you’ll be seeing those Mitsubishi powered three-wheelers driving around town.
There are many different Tuk Tuk variants most of which are powered by a water-cooled 4 stroke 650cc engine. That helps the Tuk Tuks return an estimated 55 mpg.
Passenger vehicles include a 3-passenger, 6 passenger or a pickup truck model mated to a 4-speed manual. For commercial vehicles Tuk Tuk North America is offering a 12-passenger model, a dump truck, garbage truck, a flatbed, a utility and a van model.

A 12 passenger model for the US? Three tiny wheels (and necessarily teeny brakes), 650 cc motor, and all of that quality Indian/Thai construction? They even call it a rickshaw! What, is this thing being imported by a funeral home? Good luck, maybe passengers can get a group rate.
DOT certified, as what, a motor scooter? . . . a golf cart? Surely they aren't serious. Maybe that model is smiling because she's just gotten out of the vehicle alive!
