Your choice for <$20K summer toy?
#1
![Default](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif)
With spring here (in most areas) and summer just around the corner, I have started taking note of some of the roadsters and drop tops that are taking to the streets, especially here in Atlanta. I really wish I had the extra cash to blow on a little weekend toy. Even with as much as I love my GS, I would love to have something light and fast for weekends in North Georgia.
I have started looking around at used roadsters and drop tops and am really surprise by the number of cars for sale, and the prices they're fetching. I am sure a large part of it is the economy but 350Zs, S2000s, and Z4s are all firmly in the high teens for nice cars with low mileage. Boxsters (some S models) are also in this price range which is kind of shocking to me.
If you had <$20K to blow on a fun weekend toy, which would you choose? I am keeping the list to mostly roadsters but will include a few off-topic choices.
Personally I would want something lithe with great handling and a low curb weight so I think I would lean towards the S2000 even though I am not much of a Honda guy. What about everyone else?

My first choice is the Honda S2000 with the hard top attachment. I just don't like soft top convertibles, but that is just me. My second choice would be the Mazda Miata, again with a hard top. 3rd choice would be the Porsche Boxster S. I know most people think its the poor mans Porsche, but it is still a mid engine and very fun to drive. The S2000 in technical terms is a mid engine, although it is a front mounted mid engine.

1. Porsche Boxster S
2. Honda S2000
3. Vette
4. 350Z
The Boxster is by far THE sports car of the bunch overall, possibly the finest handling car for any price. The S2000 appeals to my JDM side, I think it looks fab, I love the fact its different and like a motorbike with 4 wheels and the S2000 gang I know are a great bunch.
The Vette and Z are behind but both offer brute power first.

The Porsche Boxster, Honda S2000, and Mazda Miata are made to be roadsters, so that is why I'm more okay with them in that form, although I still prefer the hard top attachment if available.

If I was to consider the 350Z or vette it would only be in coupe form...but I see what you mean Chris. I should have been more specific when posting this but you've got rag tops, removable hard tops, targas, coupes, etc.

As much as I want to like the Boxster I think it ultimately comes down to me ultimately having an image problem with the car. At least in my area the only people who buy Boxsters are 50 something balding fat white men going through mid life crisis or obese white women with grown out roots and bad bleach jobs with protruding FUPAs.

I will pick between the S2k and the Miata ![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Both are great handler. Miata is easier to live with for use everyday during the summer. The S2k is amazing but then again I don't want to always keep the rpm above 6000 to get anything out of it.
