I love my T4R. I have it for 3 years now and I only have less than 20k miles on it.

I had one before my GS...one of the best cars I've ever owned and a complete HAUS off road. I had an SR5 Sport 4X4 and that thing was literally unstoppable off the pavement. There were times where I did stuff in that truck that I didn't know was possible!

I will admit that the 4runner prev gen and the fj are my favorite toyota's. toyota in general does not impress me but i look at the the fj and 4 runner as a diffrent bread.

Same here, one of my favorite SUV. 7 years old with only 58k. wanted to replace it but couldn't find anything better than it yet (cost factors into though).

One thing I hope the new 4Runner/GX will still be slightly more rugged looking as they are now. Makes them look more off-roadish then on road vehicles, but that is just me.

for me i wouldn't mind if they changed the outside a bit, but just give me a new engine and some new technological toys

Lightbulb No more i4

According to sources at Toyota, the 4-cylinder version of the venerable 4Runner is being discontinued after just 1 model year. The main reason for the drop is the extremely low take rate, with the V-6 model accounting for well over 90 percent of 4Runner sales.

Why such low interest? The 2.7-liter I-4 doesn't offer much of a fuel economy advantage versus the larger 4.0-liter V-6 - especially when considering its 113-horsepower and 100 pound-foot disadvantage. In fact, EPA ratings for the 2 are just a single mpg apart from each other, registering at 20 mpg combined city/highway for the smaller engine and 19 mpg combined for the V-6 in the same SR5 2WD trim. And any way you slice it, 157 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque isn't a whole lot when you have nearly 4800 pounds of curb weight to move around.

No word on how many 4-cylinder 4Runners were sold, but we estimate the figure to be less than 1000. That would make this frugal 4Runner one of the rarest Toyotas of the last several decades.

Stay tuned to Motor Trend Online for more information on the 2011 Toyota 4Runner tomorrow.

Gorgeous truck.
Saw a black and silver $42K 4Runner Limiteds when we bought our Camry and they looked great.
The exterior looks more Lexus like than Toyota.A very nice truck.

^I like it but can't quite take all the hard edges. I feel like they tried too hard to make it look "macho".

3rd gen is still the most attractive, IMO.

Yes,it's squared off but I like it in the Limited model.
Still think it needs a V8 but I didn't drive one.

Toyota destroyed the 4Runner, it looks horrible in person, and they dropped the V8 option, which made the 4th Gen an awesome tow rig.

Hopefully the build quality of these trucks are much improved, the 4th Gen 4Runners and GX470 have some interesting problems, they are definitely vehicles that need to be owned with an extended warranty.

Fortunately some of us like the more rugged boxy look of the 5th gen. I have owned the last 3 generations of 4runners (2000, 2003, 2006, & now 2010) and my last two 4th gen's were problem free as in not a single trip to the dealer other than oil changes I do miss the V8's(had it in the last two). I feel the 5th gen was a step up in many regards and a step back in a few areas as well....can't have it all
