Fortunately some of us like the more rugged boxy look of the 5th gen. I have owned the last 3 generations of 4runners (2000, 2003, 2006, & now 2010) and my last two 4th gen's were problem free as in not a single trip to the dealer other than oil changes I do miss the V8's(had it in the last two). I feel the 5th gen was a step up in many regards and a step back in a few areas as well....can't have it all
By the model years you listed you look like you leased them, all my problems started at 40k,

Bad choice of words, I just did not like the direction Toyota went in with this 4Runner, I don't know why I lucked out but my 03 V8 LTD had way to many problems, the dealer on several occasions flipped out when they realized I had an extended warranty through Toyota that covered everything, once I saw the actual price of the work done, I understood

Yes, I did lease my last 3 4runners but bought the 2010. I drove each of them to just over 50K. Never even replaced the brakes on them either, just tires on the 2006
