A hybrid will be the official pace car for the first time in NASCAR when Toyota lends a Camry for use in next month's Coca-Cola 600. Hamlin offered rides around the speedway Tuesday in the car that will be used to demonstrate its performance capabilities.

But driven at 100+ MPH, it's not getting that! Did you see Top Gear? They flogged a Prius as hard as they could around the track, and kept pace in the new V8 M3.. at the end, the M3 had better gas mileage than the Prius. Hahaha

Yeah, the 2.4L in the Camry can probably withstand high speeds better than the 1.5L Prius, but still, a GS450h, might do just as well as a Camry. But then how fast is a pace car going? If the Camry does 34 MPG at 80 MPH with the A/C on, I'd expect slightly lower than 30 MPG if it were doin 100 MPH.

This was bound to happen... I remember seeing the Camry Pace car out at Nationwide Events a few years back...
Edit... FINALLY found a photo...
They should hook it up like this... Not that lame *** excuse for a pace car they put together...
