You speak as if speed were your only criteria. If so, why? That doesn't make sense. There is a lot more to a car than 0-60 time or top speed.

If I could wait 2-3 months then probably the Buick LaCrosse.
If I could wait another year or so... maybe the Chevrolet Volt.

If I absolutely had to do it today or never then I'd probably go with a Malibu LTZ 4-cyl 6-speed auto.... which assuming I could still get the rebates and discounts on I'd be getting for free.

Even it they charge 30K for it, my guess is that Chevy would still lose money on it, although the dealers might make a killing with mark-ups and price gouging, like Toyota shops did last year on the Prius with gas at $4.00 a gallon.
latest pricing info I've heard on the Volt is that MSRP will be $40K with a $7500 tax credit.

so at $40K, with the new Insight and Prius coming in at around $20K, I'm afraid the Volt is going to be a miserable failure.

for $20K, I'd probably go with the new Chevy Cruze, it does look nice.

The SS version of the upcoming Chevy Cruze will make the Cobolt seem like a turtle boat.. Expect a more powerful turbo 4 in this thing with Euro looks

Realistic, Ford F-250 Diesel or GM 2500 Diesel

Not realistic but possible when available, that new Taurus SHO if it ever hits the lot.

Not necessarily. My one hope for the Volt is that for its 40k dollar MSRP it will come very well equipped. Like we're talking Prius V + nav or better... which even though Prius starts at 22,750, that combo is over 30 grand.

If I'm given the choice between a Prius for 30-32 grand or a Volt for 32,500 with similar equipment levels, I'm definitely taking the Volt (assuming it drives well).

There's something about a purely electric vehicle that really appeals to me. The Prius brags about its EV mode which can be used for what... like half a mile at speeds under 25? The Fusion offers a more reasonable EV mode of 47 mph and a couple miles IIRC... but still... the Volt will go 40 miles, plus plug in to charge, and has no speed limit.

I'm 100% with you -- let's hope it turns out this way

but if they send the Volt out with plastic wheel covers + cloth seats at $40K, forget it. IMO, to save $$ they need to just produce 1 fully loaded model, only option being color.

I would still not buy American Car...
Now if the question was, if US bands imports all together, I'd get the G8 GXP V8 415hp...

Believe it or not, I'd go with a Ford Edge Sport... To me, they just look cool as hell. I love the design and the fact that Ford isn't hemorrhaging money like GS and Chrysler is a good sign... So, take the $20k and use it to cover half the original price... I'm down...
