The date Pontiac became termanally ill
As a former longtime Pontiac fanatic I believe I can pinpoint the exact date Pontiac began it's downward slide. It is the date John Z. Delorean quit GM.
He was the man most responsible for raising Pontiac sales thruout the 1960's.
He quit GM around 1974. I have owned 10 different Pontiacs over the years & loved every one of them, the key to this satisfaction was the model years ranged from 1967 - 1981. Got a GM creditcard to accumulate $3,800. towards buying a new GM car 13 years ago but nothing I want to buy from GM, considered Firebird, GTO & the El camino replacement but always to little to late. Just a coincedence but I sold the remainder of my Pontiac collection in 2005 3 days after John Z. Delorean died

Having owned and loved a 1999 Firehawk and enjoyed a number of their more recent designs (last gen supercharged Grand Prix, GTO, G8) it will be a shame to see them go. However their dealer body was IMO poor and there is too much overlap with other divisions.
Now GM needs to prune GMC by rolling the valuable designs into Chevy and then move on.

Wow alot of haters here. In the end what Lutz tried to do was make Pontiac as GM"s fun car divsion, bringing over the Holden products, which turned up being the GTO and the G8. What's not to love, V8, rear wheel drive, resonable pricing.. I understand why people don't like the cheapo pontiac like the grand am, sunfire etc.. shame Pontiac can not live on, I think there would have been a rebirth of the trans am. let's hope the U.S. can still get a holden in anyway shap or form.
Below, I still love the GTO, and would rather have that then any mustang, yes even the Shelby GT500.
2006 Pontiac GTO- 400hp LS2 V8, priced used, under $25,000, 1k to 2k in mods= Shelby eater!!
