After a few years I'll probaly purchase another CL. It was definately a beautiful car but mainteance was a killer. I thought a CLS would satisfy me because the exterior is so nice but the CLS interior wise/comfort is no competition for an CL.

As a fan of the W126 S class, this is my favorite CL.

Surprising they made its a CL500 and not the CL550 or even better CL600...

I agree. Funny I've seen them parked side by side and as big as the old CL is the new one is even bigger.
Good observation about our market, Benz has to protect that "image".

This is my least favorite S-class coupe ever, I don't like those weird looking headlights in particular ...

"Plain" is such a strong word. I think it looks conservative but there is a hefty focus on elegance. Mercedes in the 1980s were experts in designing elegant but heavily understated cars. They still do this today in my opinion, though their design focus has shifted to involving more modern elements that might not age that gracefully as their older designs did.

Also, I'm a sucker for the '80s.
