Watching VW vs Toyota in the US market is a waste of time, no contest. Only VW model with impressive sales is the Jetta.

VW is more of a niche car in the US - but the Jetta TDI is one of the few non-hybrids to give the Prius a run for its money.

VW does well in Mexico, Europe and China. Shoot, VW was selling the old-school Beetle in Mexico until 2005 or so and it's still making the MKII Jetta as the Citi Jetta in South Africa. I think FAW-VW is still making the MKIV Jetta in China too.

Typical American metality, the world does not revolve around the US. They sell way more VW than Toyotas in other parts of teh world.

The US/NA market is lucrative and huge, so it should not be ignored. I don't buy into the "typical American mentality" that you choose to label people with.

Well your little point wasn't even relevant. This article in question is obviously referring to a global race, not American sales. Maybe sales volume make you feel good or something but not so much me

And further...a resounding "DUH". VW knows the importance or North America, hence why they are building a plant in TN.

I never said VW is ignoring the NA market. In fact, as we speak, there is a big push on advertising for the VW and Audi brand in the US. If VW can manage to increase sales by as little as 10 or 20% in the US and maintain sales else where, that should be enough to over take Toyota.

Good luck with VW trying to advertise its way to number 1, better products would be far more effective.

That's a big if, but I agree mathematically.

So have you even bothered to go drive any of their cars in the real world, or do you prefer to make blanket satements based on text on a computer monitor?... Just curious.

Yes I've driven VW cars and SUVs and No I would prefer not to make blanket statements based on text in a computer monitor (whatever that means), if that helps your curiosity.

The VW sales results in the US speak for themselves, with the Jetta sales being quite impressive.

But I understand your loyalty to one brand and that's okay.

Nope, I have more Japanese cars than German. How about elaborating how their new products such as the Tiguan and Mk6 Golf need to be so much better to finally have any chance of outdoing Toyota

Ahhhh, but VW doesnt have to advertise their way to number one in the US in order to success, all they ahve to do is maybe get to #3 or 4 in the US and they will be number one in the world.

Product wise, many owners prefer the driving dynamics of a VW over the numb driving experience of a Toyota.

Then go for it (VW). Product wise, I agree there are better driving experiences than numb generic Camrys and Accords.
