Trying to trade my 08 Audi S5 for a brand new CTS-V

You are simply wrong. President Obama already put out there his Warranty Commitment Program backed by the federal government. In short "ensures if you buy a GM or Chrysler vehicle, your warranty will still be honored regardless of what happens to each automaker".

Right, but somehow I doubt that, with all the stimuluses and other promises by "President" Obama, the government will honor warranty on millions of vehicles.
And it depends on whether you think the plans put into action by the government will work or not. I'm leaning more towards the hyperinflation theory after the initial recovery in which the government won't have the means to guarantee fixing people's cars.

Now, I agree he should forget the V, but for reasons that are financial and have nothing to do with age.

btw, notice that standard factory warranties (included at no extra charge) are for limited number of years/mileage, and typically during the warranty period expensive repairs are minimal.

I wouldn't bother asking for opinions here. I suspect that a quick run through the wholesale Blue Book on the Audi and look at the CTS-V price will end this discussion. Caddy isn't going anywhere and even Pontiac won't be giving cars away. Don't forget that the dealer owns the car, not GM. And the dealer is out to get the most he can from what he has been financing sitting on his lot. Try to convince me that a Caddy dealer who has someone coming in to look at a CTS-V will have anything other than dollar signs in his eyes.
Not sure on the discussion on warranties but there are starting to be some other issues sporadically show up. A relative has a Jeep that I think is around the same age as my 2k1GS4 but I could be wrong. I am not sure what part is needed for a repair, something in the driveline, and the car is off the road waiting for the part. The dealer made the comment that ChryCos suppliers are not very interested in supplying parts on anything other than a cash basis and there are parts shortages springing up. The part is evidently specific enough and the vehicle is old enough that an aftermarket part isn't any more available. May be a bunch of hooie but my relatives Jeep is sitting waiting for the part. This is what life may be like buying from bankrupt companies whether they actually file bankruptcy or wind up with some other structure that will only be different in name.

Think about it, most people who buys the V are enthusiasts and rich folks who dont care about costs.... and the dealers know it, I doubt they will be giving them away for a used S5, when they know how much they can sell it for.

Maybe you should bring mmarshall to the dealership along with his prodigious sense of humor.....LOLZ
#24
do you really buy that ???? I wouldn't gamble still. You can with your money but I want convenient service, not some half asses version thrown together by the government
#26
maybe dealers won't honor the warranty anyway, because they're not confident they'll ever see money back from the government...

Thanks for the input, but I wasn't planning to do the trade unless I could get this trade done with little or no money other than my car as a trade. The reason being that the only reason I came up with this idea is because the condition of GM and likelihood it will go into bankruptcy. I dont care how good a car the CTS-V is or how in demand it is, I should be able to get the deal if the freakin company is in bankruptcy.
Also, for me the line between the S5 level's performance and the next level (ones I mentioned) is exactly where I draw the line of good performance vs great performance. Reason being that all the cars I mentioned (e92 m3 level) are all on par with E55 AMG performance which is more than fast enough for me. The difference between the S5 and next level performance is quite big and that next level performance is just enough for me.

Btw... I was "this" close to signing on a Z06... GM issues plus HUGE negative customer service and professionalism at GM dealership(s) in last 60 days have killed my flirtation with GM products no matter what happens... completely rude and full of attitude... no need for it, and in their current climate, I now say, "Buh-bye". And don't believe a WORD of BO backing any warranty
