New BMW X5-M and X6-M
#16
I have to laugh when I think back to when the X5 was introduced. I was a BMW owner back then, and there was an article in the Roundel (the BMW Car Club of America magazine) interviewing higher-ups within Bimmer's corporate ranks who sniffed in derision at the very idea of an X5-M. They claimed that the Motorsports division would never lower itself to modifying an SUV (sorry, SAV, in Bimmer parlance) and that the best we would ever see was an "s" variant, which of course came out in the 4.6si and 4.8is.
I wonder if the leadership has changed, or if those German muckety-mucks are now eating their words...
