Dash this is a great video, big props! Now that its been 16 years since that video, let me comment on some of my observations.
1) There are still tons of these first generation LS400's on the road. There are also quite a bit of that generation 7 series as well. That just tells you how well these two cars were built, and how long they last. On the other hand, the Q45's and Audi's of that generation are all but extinct. I guess that could be an indication of their build quality and reliability.
2) How could they not include the Jag XJ8 into this comparo?!?!
3) The Lexus was the oldest of the group - in 1994 Lexus released all new MY1995 LS400 which was a tremendous improvement over the first gen. Yet, in this video the LS400 looks the most modern, sexiest, and slickest... followed by the BMW. That of course is my subjective opinion.

I am suprised how far ahead in performance the STS was compared to the competition. Especially compared to the Lexus and Q45. I have no problems with the BMW finishing first. The 6.7 secs 0-60 was impressive for Cadillac.
I also note how the host mentioned that there have been rumours that the V8 luxury sedan is an endandgered species..

The Q45 and A8 of that period were poor sellers in the US. This is the reason you see so few of them around. Build quality has nothing to do with it.

I agree. I see a lot of Cadillac STS models from the 1990s. That was a terrible car for reliability. The one car from the video I rarely see is the E-Class.

I see alot of e-class, that car is a true tank. the 400e was a odd ball it was made right before the new model came out. the 300e that was a fantastic car. I had one of those it was just a pure joy to drive.

Well, that video featured the V12, long wheelbase with every conceivable feature. Well beyond the class we're discussing.
Things have certainly changed though. You would never put today's E-class against a 7 or LS.

I can't believe how horrible the Audi looks. Was that left over from the '80's?
Talk about rare though, I've never seen one of those Audis. Ever.
The LS has stood the test of time best though. The STS's styling has stood up well too.
