Edmunds 2009 Full-Size Pickup Truck Test
Chevy Silverado vs. Dodge Ram vs. Ford F-150 vs. Toyota Tundra

Summing Up
Still, none of them is perfect. A better truck is theoretically possible if someone took the best elements from each and mashed them together. The final results show just how good the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, 2009 Ford F-150 and 2008 Toyota Tundra are.
For now, the 2009 Dodge Ram sits atop this pile, but any of the others could forge ahead if they spend a little time on their respective weaknesses. It's that close.
And we think it's safe to say that horsepower and torque are still among the more important elements in the mix if you're going to tow or haul for work or play. And if you're not going to tow or haul, why buy a truck at this point?

It seems with truck tests the results are usually ordered from newest truck to oldest truck in terms of when that design came out.
This test seems to mirror that except for the F150 which is way out of place.
I haven't driven this new gen of F150 but I did drive an 07 5.4L and was amazed how slow and heavy it felt for being rated at 300hp.
Where is Mr Jones, by the way? It appears that the GM truck not only got the best fuel economy, but it also got the best 'as tested' economy relative to its EPA rating. According to what he usually says, this test should have had about exactly the opposite result for that truck.

a large pickup is not a sports car and isn't judged by 0-60. i find out 04 5.4 f-150 plenty powerful enough, including towing a big gooseneck horse trailer and horses.
these trucks can tow 9-10 thousand pounds, plenty for most needs.
i doubt edmunds review will change many buyers' minds. with chryco in bankruptcy, it'll only be die hards buying the dodge ram. the tundra has been consistently been criticized for a flinty jittery ride, plus the interior is worst in class. the chevy is a VERY good truck, but i think GM's about to go belly up too.
the new f-150 is very evolutionary, and i don't like the new look. kind of like the new lexus rx - lots of good improvements, but now homely.

I meant that I expected it to be a shoe-in for the win but was shocked that it came in last (even though they said that the spread from first to last was very thin). The F-series usually sets the bar whenever it gets redesigned but I guess they just didn't give it enough engine and torque this time.
