NEW YORK — Chrysler dealers who have filed affidavits with bankruptcy court say the automaker's dealer network is "extremely fragile and on the verge of collapse."
"The uncertainty surrounding the Chrysler dealer network is killing dealers," said James J. Arrigo, co-chair of Chrysler's National Dealer Council, in an affidavit regarding Chrysler's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
Arrigo is the owner of two Florida Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep dealerships and is considered one of the automaker's top dealers.
"Many Chrysler dealerships are in financial distress and the situation has deteriorated rapidly in recent weeks," Arrigo said. "This is the most dire situation I have seen in the car business."
He added: "Nearly every potential buy that walks in my dealership has either raised the issue of Chrysler's viability or asked sales staff if Chrysler will 'be around.' The Chrysler dealership network is extremely fragile and on the verge of collapse."
Inside Line says: Already panicky consumers are afraid to buy Chrysler, and that mood is making the bankruptcy situation much worse, dealers say. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

NEW YORK -- The judge overseeing Chrysler's Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection proceedings says the automaker can start taking steps toward selling the vast majority of its assets to Italy's Fiat.
Judge Arthur Gonzales says the procedures proposed by Chrysler's lawyers represent a "clear and orderly process."
Attorneys for Auburn Hills, Michigan-based Chrysler LLC argued that the automaker had essentially been up for sale for most of the last two years and a speedy sale was needed in order to preserve the value of the company's assets.
But those representing a dissident group of Chrysler lenders said more time was needed for other potential buyers to do the research they needed to make an appropriate offer.

Suits them right, why are they complaining now? This has been brought up as one of the side effects of bankruptcy and they kept plowing ahead anyways, now they are finally about to go bankrupt they cry about what we warned them about. What a bunch of idiots

I remember Fiats when I was in Mexico, and they are not big sellers down there at all despite have a significant dealership network in a country known for small cars.
If they had stopped paying those high salaries and taken that money and focused on improving quality and design, they might still be in business.

Well... back to basics... make a nice product and everyone will buy... make an excuse for a automobile... what else did they expect????
Sebring... who on earth got paid to design this thing... please fire him or band from even seeing a car for the rest of his life!!
Compass/Patriot.... where is the market for these cars?? who is asking for them? where is the research? Is there some one that will buy this thing?
Nitro.... Dont have any words to explain... what the hell is this thing? Just because Toyota sold XB (boxy ugly thing) does not mean Chrysler could pull this off....
Commander... Only ate G.Cherokee's lunch
Why replace a good selling Neon (tuner market SRT-4) with a wagon?? Who ever said it is a good idea to replace a sedan with a wagon?? Just cause the magnum sold well initially.... it doesn't mean you go and replace a perfectly well selling car with a wagon and expect people to buy it!!!
