Cool GM builds one-off Corvette ZR-1 Hero Edition for charity

There is no shortage of special-edition Corvettes out there, factory-produced or aftermarket. In fact, General Motors itself has released several custom kits in the past few months. But the Hero Edition Corvette ZR1, built to benefit the Kids Wish Network, is the only one of its kind.

Based on the Corvette ZR-1 - already a very special car - with unique red accents, custom graphics and extra carbon fiber components, the Hero Edition also gets unique badging proclaiming its one-off status plus signatures of the Corvette engineering and production team under the hood.

For a twist, the Hero Edition isn't for sale - not even up for auction. Instead, it will be raffled off by WinTheVettes to benefit charity. Entry tickets cost just $3 each, but discounts can be had for lots of 5 or more, all the way up to 6,000 tickets, which will cost just $5,000. What that means is you may well have to spend the purchase price of a standard ZR-1 in order to even have a chance at winning the car.

But that's what charity is for. Even though there's only one Hero Edition car, with all the money this car is likely to raise for the Kids Wish Network, there will be many, many heroes.

IMO this package severely dates the C6 Corvette. Looks 15 years old. Ugly chrome wheels, horrible graphics, and gigantic wheel gap FTL.

Agreed. The paint job is off of an '80's Firebird TransAm.

And chrome rims just seem out of style.

you forgot to mention....the raffle also includes....(you get BOTH cars)

a restored 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, 427/390hp

Stuffing a massive 427 cubic inch engine into America’s favorite sports car resulted in a predictable ground-pounding, tire-shredding beast.

The red “stinger” on the hood lets everyone know that a big-block lurks beneath. Estimated at 390 horsepower this car is a thrill to drive. The heart-thumping side exhaust only adds to the experience. This roadster is finished in striking Tuxedo black with black interior and top. Factory style “bolt-on” wheels with red line tires add to the original appearance of this restored iconic muscle car. No automatic here, you’ll have to go through the gears yourself with the much more desirable four speed transmission

Y is GM spending their time and money on projects like this when they have lots of other things to worry about? Its obvious they didn't put their best effort in on this one though.

So when times are tough, does that mean people shouldn't donate to their church or to their favorite charity? Should all corporations just cancel all their charitable fund raisers? Should the US forget about donating to relief and aid organizations across the globe because the US economy is battered and slumping?

Charitable work is charitable work. GM should be commended on still trying to be charitable instead of slamming the door on its charities and saying sorry we have nothing to give or offer.

Graphics? Gotta go.
Chrome spider wheels? Gotta go
Ride height/wheel gap? Gotta go.

But, I'd love to have that S/C'ed LS9 powerplant in my C6 anyday.

Not when the money they are using wasn't earned by them in the first place. You won't go take out a loan just to be charitable and give part of it away just like that, otherwise what was the purpose of taking the loan out in the first place?
