BMW Z4: Let's Burn A Hole in My Pocket!
I went to BMW USA's website to see the new BMW Z4.
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...Z4Explore.aspx
Starting Price:
Z4 sDrive30i - $45,750
Z4 sDrive35i - $51,560
52K starting price for a Z4?!
Starting price for an M3 Sedan is $54,850 and a 535i is $51,100
Who is the world would purchase a Z4 sDrive35i rather then a 535i or spend a couple more grand and get the freaking M3 beast?!

I haven't driven a new one but it LOOKS like it has moved a class up... so if it also drives like it has moved a class up then it's priced correctly.
I mean, put it side by side with the SC430 and you really have to figure if the SC430 can sell enough to justify its own production, then that car can definitely justify.
Put it next to a Benz SLK or Porsche Boxster and it makes sense.
About the only thing it seems kind of 'off' compared to is the M3 and 535i but that's IF you consider the 5 series to be a class above the Z4. In the previous gen it was, but maybe now it's not? And that's also if you consider a fairly large/heavy lux sedan to be a suitable replacement for a hard top convertible coupe. Personally I don't see many people cross-shopping those two cars.
Another question is does it come with anything standard that are optional on the 535 or M3? That might explain the pricing a bit as well.

I guess people are still associating the Z4 with the old version, which was pretty cheap and not built up to BMW standards. The new Z4 is faster, handles better, better built material and larger. Too bad the MSRP sky rocketed. It looks like the new Z4 is headed for that BMW wholesale rate lease program soon.

In before the "you get what you pay for (lets ignore $199 lease deals)" and "it has soul" and "the SC 430 sucks" arguements
If you put $40k down on a lease, hell it can be $50.00 per month.

i'd rather get this base model than the uglier IS-c
who would rather get this than a 535 sedan?
different people have different wants.
try getting a m3 convert for that price

The new Z4 Z4 sDrive35i is actually faster than the previous Z4 M, so if you want a fast roadster with folding hardtop, there is justification for the price.
And as much as the M3 sedan and 530i cost about the same, they are NOT roadsters, nor will they handle like roadsters, nor will you get a tan in it like a roadster.
Yes, it's overpriced. But when you compare it to other roadsters, it's actually priced right for the performance it provides...

Does it really matter how much the Z4 cost? People can afford it and will continue to buy them. Overpricing depends on the buyer, some say the SC430 is an overpriced Solara...

the styling of the car looks overdone. Looks like they added defining lines because they could. Better than the last design aesthetically, but the price is astronomical. Now I know why these cars are so rare. For that kind of money I would get a Boxster S ( assuming I could even fit in a tiny car like that)
