Cool Top Selling US Car for '08 - drum roll, please . . .

An eco-friendly coupe topped US sales last year, indicating either a response to high gasoline prices or a culture shift toward green transportation. This single-seater requires a minimum of horsepower, and despite being rather slow, does offer an advantage in maneuverability, particularly in close quarters. Due to size and weight, it requires no brakes, and steering is accomplished with the driver's feet.

While like the VW Beetle, the model has remained unchanged for years, it has given the manufacturer time to pay off the tooling for the unusual plastic-formed body and simple running gear years ago, producing a popular American-made car that doesn't require a government bailout to survive. It is, in fact, more popular than at any time in its production run, despite, or perhaps because of its retro-'50's styling and limited color selection.

Currently to be seen in driveways all over America, the Cozy Coupe sold over 457,000 units in 2008, topping the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. In the '90s, it outsold both the Accord and Ford Taurus. In fact, considering its 10 million unit sales over the past 30 years, it shows up in the top 20 most popular vehicles of all time.

Just in case you are among the few teens and twenty-somethings that didn't own one, here's a look:

Cozy Coupe manufactured by The Little Tikes Co. in Hudson, Ohio.

LOL my 8 year old son had one when he was little. I'm telling you he lived in that thing. He even had the gas pump that went with it. Good times
