Advice Needed: Used vs New C3004M
Hey Everyone,
It's been a long time since I've posted on ClubLexus. I still read it time to time. I'm in the market for a new car, and I'm strongly considering the C class. I like the way it looks. Drives well. I just have a few questions.
1. Why are the P2 Packages rare? Whether I'm looking at used or new C3004M @ dealerships, you rarely see a P2 package available. I know you're pretty much paying for the Xenons, but I was amazed by the lack of these available.
2. I need some advice from people who have P1 vs P2, and what decision is better here.
New Car: P2, Multimedia, iPod - $43,900. I got this quote from my currently local dealership. I will get in touch with the dealership where I bought my ML from this week. Their last figure (3 months ago) was a couple thousand less than the $43,900 quote. I believe it was near $41,000.
Used Car: P1, Multimedia, iPod. The used car is a 2008 with 11,000 miles. Was used strictly as a dealer loaner vehicle. It is a certified pre-own. My ML does not have Xenons, but other cars in our family do. I do think the headlights are better than the halogens, but logically, I feel it'd be a wrong decision to make that a deal breaker.
If I was to get a new C, I'd likely lease it. The current lease price is 39 months, $633 (selling price $43,950). I don't remember the residual, but I believe the buying price of the car at the end of the lease will be near $22,000 (I could be wrong. Will need to call dealer to double check).
If I was to purchase the used, the selling price at the moment is $33,000 with the dealer maybe taking down the price slightly more.
Bascially, I'd be paying (39 mo x $633 = $24,687) for 39 months, when I can own the car for as long as I want for about $9,000 more. With one car, I get my preference of packages (bascially the addition of Xenon's), and the other, well, seems like a better 'investment'.
I should take the used right?
What would be a good bottom line offer to go in with?
Thanks a lot guys!

I noticed the same thing as you when I was looking at the new C-classes. The biggest thing about P2 for me is the fold down rear seats. Those are pretty crucial to me, the xenons are a nice plus.
I'd say wait for exactly what you want.

on my C350, i had to get the P2 just for the xenons. I couldnt care less about the rear sunshade or the rear foldable seats. i guess people cant justify the the price for some not "must have" items
