DIY oil change lowers insurance reimbursement when totaled?
when you total your car, insurance asks for maintenance papers.
if you DIY oil change, you have nothing to show for it.
what do you do here?

The time and effort for an insurance company to review maintenance records to determine the "value" of the car (whether it was well maintained or poorly maintained) probably, in the long run, so far outweighs any savings the company would have by trying to low ball payments by claiming that the car was in "fair" or "poor" condition.

that's exactly it.
after you total your car, they use the oil change receipts to determine the condition your car is in: poor, fair, excellent.
if you don't have any oil change papers, they will categorize your car as "poor"ly maintained, and give you less money.
I guess buying the oil might be acceptable.....? who knows.
but you still have no hard proof that you changed the oil. I wonder if they'll make a big deal out of it.
I'm pretty sure they'd accept jiffy lube receipts.
but yes, AAA did ask for receipts.

So answer your question...the simple answer is NO, granted you have the documentation to back it up. If you have no documentation...you're SOL.

I save the receipts for the Mobil1 I buy at Costco, and the filter (with part number on the receipt!) and keep it with all my other paperwork on the car.
I write on the receipt: 35K oil change, 40K oil change, etc.
I can't imagine it would be an issue.
