1,500,000th Corvette rolls off the line...
The white convertible 3LT, sporting a red interior and black soft top, rolled off the line on May 28. Its predecessors began filling garages on June 30, 1953.
Building 1,500,000 of just about any complex machine is a serious milestone, but it's much more than that to the motoring spirit of America when it's the Chevrolet Corvette. Today General Motors announced the production of the 1,500,000th Corvette at its Bowling Green Assembly plant.
Looking back on the nearly 60 years of Corvette production that got them to the Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR-1, Rafferty remarked, "The 1.5 millionth Corvette is a great example of how Chevy is America's Brand. For nearly 60 years we have built America's Sports Car and this milestone is a solid proof point."

quite the feat...
the corvette works because its a sports car that any person can strive to own. Its fun, stylish, reliable and quite a bargain as well.
you can go buy a ZR1 today and stomp porsches and such that cost 2x as much all night long.
very suprising because i dont see as many vettes as i used to...although you see a host of them running around when its nice out.

What a succsess story, 56 years of nonstop demand. Too bad GM can't duplicate this on any other model. Surely design engineers have much looser rein from the bean counters than any other platform.
