DC Says Go To Speedbumps

Since Adrian Fenty became mayor in 2007, the number of speed bumps in the nation's capital has jumped from 157 to 691. The Fenty administration has authorized twice as many speed bumps in 2 1/2 years as the Williams administration authorized in five.
From 2001 to 2005, the District's Department of Transportation installed approximately 50 speed bumps. Since 2007, DDOT has installed 534 of the traffic calming devices. There are no plans to slow down the process.

I wish I had some of my own photos of the speedbumps back in Mexico City. The local police did not have radar guns. You going fast was your own risk, but there seemed to be speed bumps everywhere and many were unmarked or paint had faded way. The topes as the speed bumps were called, came in all shapes and sizes, sometimes they were depressions, sometimes they were enormous, but were chipped from use, sometimes they were rows of small topes in order to indicate for one to reduce speed. Sometimes they had a little round metal ***** to slow one down.
Here are some examples I found on the Internet.
There was always a pothole to kill you if the speed bumps didn't.

I don't see the point of speed bumps in DC since the traffic is already terrible. Then they got speed cameras to catch speeders. They should spend that money fixing the road in DC.

Speed bumps don't faze some people. They fly over them, risking body, tire/wheel, and suspension damage, like they weren't there at all. There are some real idiots behind the wheel.
Given my choice, however, I would rather not have them. They are a pain in the a**, and only help safety to a limited extent....if you actually do slow down for them.

You can't expect much in the D.C. government to make sense. After all, this is the city that gave us Marion Barry...and keeps re-electing him to both the Mayorship and the City Council.

if you don't like the way dc is run, you shouldn't like how our federal govt is run.
dc is an embarassment. failed schools. guns banned. endless corruption. horrible crime.
apart from that it's great.

Amen to that, can't put down the city chaos better then that. Also last two times I went to D.C., I got parking tickets, including one after 8pm. If I go to D.C., I take the metro!
