I'm highly considering this as my graduation car (after I graduate college/university)

The back end of this car is really a bit weak. Nissan designers as a whole seem to like this idea of creating a back end that "breaks" from the design of the rest of the car. 370Z, G37 sedan, and this new M look sort of like that fat girl that has her belt too tight. In this instance that belt is just about midway on the rear door- just enough so that the rear end of the car would look like a muffin top if you stood it on it's grille.
If they had done a more "signature-Infiniti" design in the tails I think it would have looked better straight on from the rear. It looks generic and somewhat bulbous as it is now.
Also, all of the high character lines and belt lines that designers are giving cars these days make the wheels look small unless they are HUGE. The new M is no different as it requires the wheels from the sport package to look right. The smaller wheels on the non-sport model seem to accentuate that muffin-top curve and just looks downright awkward.
Still, hard to argue with that interior or the engines.

I don't find it ugly, its fine. However my issue is I seem to like the Maxima better. I really was expecting to be blown away with all the "Essence" talk etc etc. Its nice but I was expecting best looking in class. Interior seems well built but busy to me, too many waves/curves.
The other thing that tickles me is for the last 5 years, people post the most flattering pics of the M series. The one with the 19s/20s and kit. Well most are not that way, most look like the pic below.

It looks very similar to the Maxima from a straight-on front view.
Also what is with this interior:

Why is there a bulbous bulge in the shifter area of the center console? Why is almost everything on the exterior and in the interior of this car either bulging or bulbous?![Egads!](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/pat.gif)

The more I look at pics of the new M the more I am disappointed. I really want to like this car as I like the current M but from the pics it is a letdown. I was expected great things with the new M and something gorgeous and as nice or nicer then the Mercedes CLS but it really just looks like a slightly larger G37 sedan with a few more curves thrown in. I am no fan of the styling of the jellybean G37 at all and feel the new Maxima looks way better. The only thing I kind of like about the new M from the pics is the front grill treatment which is pretty nice and has Maxima cues. The rear is pretty ugly and extremely boring and uninspired. The interior looks great to me, it may be a little overdone but that is fine with me, much better then the plain boring unintersting downmarket looking G37 interior.
Although a larger 5.6l 400+ hp v8 option sounds nice, in this economy with strict CAFE standards coming and possible sky high fuel prices again it is not the greatest idea. Who cares if it is a little more fuel efficient then the current one, the current one gets horrible SUV like fuel economy, the 400+ should have been for a special performance version with a much more fuel efficient smaller 350-375hp v8 as the main v8 option. Most are going to be getting the v6 anyway and that thrashy engine does not get good fuel economy either.
I will reserve final judgment until I see it in person, I am sure it will drive great and may just be good enough to ignore the disappointing exterior. Maybe I was setting my sights too high, I was expecting some low sleek beautiful sedan like a CLS but even better and it just ended up being way too close to the plain G37 sedan.
Someone in our neighborhood just got a silver M sport with the upgraded wheels, sideskirts, and spoiler and it looks great.
