Ford went to Yamaha for the first-gen SHO's because they were the leader in multi-valve technology at the time. Yamaha developed the heads and cam drive for the 3.0 and the performance figures were pretty impressive. This was an adaptation of motorcycle technology to an American V6, and despite all you can think that was wrong with that marriage, somehow, even if it required a lot of maintenance, it worked. I have a few friends like that - you wonder how they ever got together, but whatever the conventional thinking, it works for them.

From what I have seen in the press photos the new Taurus looks really nice. I agree that Ford seems to make an effort to listen to what the customers want. It has the basic Ford sedan styling cues we've come to expect but somehow it appears more appealing (classy) and even upscale. I don't think the idea is far fetched that this car could even pass for an entry-level Lincoln sedan.
The power and performance you also get for the money here are quite impressive.

I couldn't believe Ford actually made a good looking interior, I've only seen it shown on MotorWeek, so in person it may not be as nice, but really it seems they are starting to figure it out.
Dump the live rear axel and they'd have a decent car to compete with the 370Z.

My friend has two of the older SHO Taurus, one in stock trim and the other with a Garret turbo. The thing is, i thought that 1)it's a Ford and 2) it's a taurus, i didn't think it would perform worth a crap. Boy was i wrong! The stock one that i rode in was a junk heap, but it had plenty of pickup and go to keep all the Honda boyz behind him. The turbo one...well that's just plain insane...
the entire point of the Taurus was to create a car that was affordable to all the masses and making it very user friendly. It was a great car for the average commuter back then. Sure they weren't the prettiest things on the road, but they did the job and fairly reliably (although i will note that my old shop had at least one on the lift every week
). I think this next evolution looks great both inside and out. The only question how close this car will be to it's humble beginnings and will it hold up to be a great car for everyone? I think Ford might be on to something here, we'll just have to wait and see...
**waits at his Valet stand for the next fleet of rental Tauruses to roll up**
