If the CL and S class are scrapped then what the hell are NBA players supposed to roll in. I guess its Bentley Continentals then

Yes, but the S500 in the rest of the world is also the same 5.5L (yes I've seen those in person in Europe and Asia), just that they retain the S500 designation for tradition, but they figure Americans prefer the "larger" numbers over tradition.

I wonder how the Marketing guys came up with the logic of the SLK280 for the 3.0L version........ Maybe it helps the SLK350 buyers feel more special.

Better than C230 Kompressor when it had a 1.8 litre engine (and it was called the C180 Kompressor elsewhere in the world). Of course, that's not to be confused with our old C230 Kompressor with a 2.3 litre engine.
