Moar Power!! Next M5 with 600hp tt V-10

The next BMW M5 is due to arrive sometime in 2011 or 2012 and as the release date draws near, more details about BMW's newest 'Bahn-burner have begun to surface.
Two reports indicate that BMW may continue to use a V10 powerplant in the next M5, although there's still some evidence that the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 currently fitted to the X5M and X6M could be tweaked and fitted in its place. However, if BMW decides to stick with the bent-ten, a thoroughly revised version based off the 'utes' V8 would be employed, packing a duo of turbos to boost output up and over the 600 hp mark, and giving the Audi RS6 a run for its money.
But it won't be all about power. BMW is also expected to use an F1-style KERS system to increase performance and fuel economy, along with an engine start-stop setup and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. If the rumors are to be believed, expect the next M5 to make its debut sometime in 2011, with sales beginning in early 2012.

Pole Position
I call BS on this one! Twin turbo V10 with KERS and eight speed dc under $100K is impossible. No way in hell!!!
Most likely car will get twin turbo V8 from X5M.
Also KERS doesn't improve fuel economy it improves performance only and it adds extra weight.
I guess it was slow news day

This is ridiculous now. 400hp to 500hp to 600hp? The extra 100hp from the E39 to the E60 M5 shaved what, .2 or .3 seconds off the 0-60 time? Who knows what the new version will be?
Furthermore, at some point you hit a wall where you have to start to add hundreds of horsepower or shed hundreds of lbs to see significant performance increases. IMO, that wall is the low 4 second mark and it's funny that even despite their power increases, the new M, AMG, and RS cars aren't really significantly faster than they were before. A tad? Yes. Significantly? Not really. Is it worth the price, engineering, R&D, and resources? Not really, IMO.
I honestly think that in the quest for raw power these cars are losing their purity, and in essence, their appeal. Is there really a market for a 600HP TT V10 sedan?
Audi seems to think not by shorting us on the RS6. Mercedes doesn't think so either because they have retuned the E63 for a marginal power increase but a heavily increased focus on handling, balance, efficiency, and refinement and for that I applaud them tremendously. These cars should be about dynamics and balance, not just raw power.
At some point, the pissing match has to end. I think there is a legitimate argument to be made for the "super sedan" concept, but I don't think that 600hp from a TT V10 is even remotely on that plane.
I would rather have a 3700lb car with 500hp, than a 4200lb one with 600hp because it's lighter, and probably more agile, efficient, and balanced.
And since this article is only a rumor, I'll get off my soapbox now . BMW, please listen. The TT V8 would be a great powerplant for the M5...a TT 600HP V10 is overkill and you stand the chance of diluting the M name by adding it, IMO.

Why doesn't BMW direct the resources and cost of developing such an engine into a supercar to compete with the LF-A and SLS? THAT would be a vehicle befitting of such a powerplant!

BMW/M fans have CTS-V to thank for this. If the new M5 has anything under 550hp, then marketing would be very upset. At the end of the day for these niche cars, the bottom line is sales/marketing, not efficiency/engineering.

I thought the germans said the horespower was over?, I guess not.
Dilution of the M brand, this is already happening, with M versions of the X5, and X6, seriously who needs that?, who needs a X6 anyway?
BMW's new marketing, M=$$$
