That's some "back to nature" look.

its pretty much a US trend...and growing on the VW and BMW forums.

Was just reading a thread with a guy who just bought a new 3 series.....and wanted to rust the hood

I am hoping these guys have some way to control the progression of the rust... like some form of rust-proof layer underneath the rust? Or do they plan on just replacing all the panels with new ones after a few more years of rusting passes by?

This thread stinks of self righteous hating...

I remember I got an infraction for cross forum flaming once...except I was telling the truth.

Unless you have been held at gun point and forced to rust your hood, just leave these guys alone.

Maybe its to make a statement like "your black painted hood is stupid" or "I don't care what people think I like it" or "my hood is more visually stimulating then your hood"

I like it. It's unique (till everybody else does it) and it definitely turns heads and makes a statement. Rusted hod rods/rats are popular and people absolutely love them, I see this as a tribute/throwback to rat rods and the mindset of the people that drive them. I wouldn't do it to my car but I respect it I guess.

So people are not supposed to verbalize their dislike for a style or trend unless they were forced to partake in that trend themselves?

There's a difference between hating out of jealousy and hating out of genuine dislike. I think very few people in this thread are jealous of those cars.

Aside from that, none of us to my knowledge are going over to those forums and trolling or antagonizing them, so I don't see how we're bothering them with these comments unless they're coming over here to read them and end up getting their feelings hurt.
