No, I am not PWI...I actually liked it when it debuted except the Altezzas, looks aggresive and butch. Once you get past the fact it will never be a sedan I have to say the practicality of a hatch is appealing.

The new WRX certainly looks much better than when the redesign debuted in '08. However, my dream car (feasible) right now is an '07 WRX, 5MT.

I'm willing to bet that we will see a 315 HP Legacy STi. The demand is there and STi and SPT have done some work on one and an STi Forester.

I love my Subaru though, but with only 111k miles on my LGT I have a ways to go before I need a new one.

I kinda like the new styling too.

But my preference for small sports sedans w/300hp are still IS350 and G37. For dirty infrequent snow and offroad use, I use a SUV.

2 of my close family members own Subies and are happy with them as practical AWD vehicles, and they use them frequently for trips to Lake Tahoe.

I think the new style is very nice and agressive. I dont see why so many flipped the hell out when it was released. There is a guy I see all of the time who has the car lowererd on huge gold rally style wheels. It looks hardcore

Unfortunately, it has a lot of growing to do, especially with the styling of the hatchback rear end, which has been the chief complaint among the WRX-STi faithful. The interior, like the Honda Insight, also has way too much hard plastic. At least, though, the WRX and STi have kept the coolant-temperature gauge, which has been dumped on most new Subarus (and on non-turbo Imprezas) in favor of idiot lights.

For the money I would be all over the EVO 10. Both have lost a little of their previous edginess but I am still liking them

Not only that, but AWD increases grip, in some cases, even on dry pavement, and, because power and torque often go to all 4 wheels, it helps equalize tire wear, with less need for tire rotation, though tire rotation is still in the servce recommendations.

AWD has some well known and distinct advantages.

But there are also some downsides including extra weight, lower gas mileage, deadened steering feel, and the resulting slower acceleration in many dry conditions, etc.

Of course several expensive high-powered cars utilize the advantages of AWD and post very high performance numbers (price tends to be high, mileage low).

Subaru has such a long history of mediocre to ugly looking cars, so this STI is an improvement somewhat. Selling premium hatchbacks in the US is always a bit of an uphill battle, IMO (and based on sales results too).

It is true that, all other things equal, the weight/drag of AWD does rob some power and mileage, but not necessarily steering feel. Subarus, for example, have some of the best steering feel this side of a BMW....particularly the Legacy-Outback line. The feel of the steering was only one of many things that sold me on my Outback.
