Jaguar XJ official thread (no delay in production)

I'm quite curious to see this as well. One comment that caught my attention was that they figured out how to get the low profile lights (last seen on the XF concept) into production. That could make for a very, very nice front end.
Picking Jay Leno to unveil it though seems odd.

I have to be honest...I am rather let down.
The front end is by far the best looking part of the car- prominent, bold, and aggressive. They did a nice job here.
Traveling backward, things start to fall apart quickly. The fenders, and some other parts of the design, seem to mimic the Quattroporte closely. The shape of the doors is a little too bland for me- the indentation along the bottom is not enough to make them interesting.
Unfortunately the rear end looks like a mix between a Maybach and a Kia Amanti. I am all for simplicity, but the butt of this thing looks awfully, awfully plain. It would look better (IMO) with the license plate integrated into the deck lid, and a smooth bumper all the way across. The overall rear end is very nondescript and bland.
Looking at the design as a whole, you can see where they tried to add some ultra-lux appeal into the car (certain curves and shapes) but I am not sure that it necessarily worked. Some of the curves say Maybach or Bentley while the massive rear overhang and it's details seem swept directly off Kia's flagship. Overall, it doesn't seem as sporty as the XF, nor as elegant as it's rivals. I would give it a C+.

Agreed. The front of the car looks fantastic and gets a bit stranger towards the rear. As mentioned a bit of Bentley there but the steep downward slope seems like it will hurt rear headroom. I want to see more!
They claim they can pull the headlights off now. I'm expecting to see production not concept pictures.

Not a fan if that's the real design. Looks like a Maserati sedan and a Ford Probe got together and birthed it.
