I agree, especially when seen in the same room as the G37 'vert, as it was shown at SJ auto show in January.

Does anyone on here have one yet?

I think I saw a one thread that said something about taking delivery...

Yeah but we are forgetting WHY the IS has that rear. While the G37 convert trunk is useless, the IS has a very useable trunk. The IS is also lighter and has the fastest motorized top. Lexus purposely extended the rear of the ISc 2 inches so it could be more than just a pretty car.

I'm quite surprised that the coupe is selling that well. If it can hold up over a year that will be very good news for Lexus and show that they have under served the market. I thought for sure the styling would limit the appeal especially when it came to top up motoring.

I hope they break these out in their monthly sales reports.

With the standard OEM brakes, stopping distance for the IS from 60 mph is a short 119.2 ft. (36 m).With the sport brake package, stopping distance is cut to an impressive 108.8 ft. (33 m).
Somebody call the marketers and tell them that it is their imagination!

I'll trust what's on Brembo's site:
What are the benefits and features of the Gran Turismo Brake System?

Features:

Dual use-street and track events
Race-based components
One or two-piece drilled and/or slotted discs
Billet aluminum hats
"Floating" disc mounting system
Four-piston cast aluminum calipers
High Performance friction material

Benefits:

Can be used on the street at drivers' schools and at club events.
Proven on-track performance at the highest levels of racing.
Disperses gasses, cleans pads for better "bite."
Reduces "unsprung weight" for better handling.
Provides maximum braking force without the flex of sliding calipers.
Reduces heat-related stress, increases brake performance and pedal feel.
Aggressive pads that last longer and provide the highest level of performance.

Where can I find test data on stopping distances?

At the speeds that stopping distance is generally measured from (60 to 70mph), the test is primarily testing the tire's grip on the pavement. As delivered from the manufacturer, nearly all vehicles are able to engage the ABS or lock the wheels at these speeds. Therefore, an increase in braking power will do nothing to stop the vehicle in a shorter distance. For this reason, we do not record stopping distances at this time. The Brembo systems will show their greatest advantages when braking from higher speeds, or when tasked with repeated heavy braking. The increased braking torque provides for maximum deceleration at speed, and the ability to absorb and quickly dissipate the intense heat generated during repeated braking insures that the braking system will perform at the same high level each time.
No need to say much more...

Did not forget why, but certainly a valid note to bring up again. The 2 inches of extra length does not make the car ugly, it's more the extra height and bulk back there.

And that's also just one of several reasons why most premium converts use a softtop (to avoid that marginal trunk and ugly lines).

Or because it was a cheaper way to make a convertible, and looks like most new convertibles are becoming hard top converts

Don't think a premium softtop saves significant money over a hardtop. It's a non issue in cars over $50 grand. A multi layer softtop with an exotic alloy frame is not cheap.

Of course a hardtop has many real advantages, especially for people using the cars all year or as daily drivers. But premium convertibles have different usage patterns and tend to be owned by those with multiple vehicles.

For a luxury cruiser I think this late in the game its almost unacceptable to not offer a hardtop. Exceptions are all out sports cars or cars so damn beautiful they look just as good top down as up.

Its only outpacing production because the production numbers were already massively slashed before release of the vehicle. Its not bad, but the G37 looks better and has more power
