Short answer still applies here and may become the official recommendation here, wash it on the lawn so that pollutants are filtered via grass and soil to minimize dirty runoff.

Ive worked in seafood for quite some time now and alot of people poo poo the idea of farm raised fish even though there are more benefits to it other than ecological sustainability. It's sad.

I had salmon today, yummy, probably farm raised. I'm sure it can be done in a reasonably ecologically sound manner.

how much water do you use? I thought you said you don't let your car(s) get that dirty???
I've washed my car over my lawn to give the grass and extra drink of water....of course I wouldn't do this if its rained for 3 days in a row and the ground is already soft...its called common sense.

That's IT! My car is covered with grim. No wonder I can't get it clean!
BTW there are plenty of eco-friendly soaps out there - phosphate free, biodegradable products that will not strip wax or harm the environment. We used them for years on the boats in our marina, and kids were catching plenty of bream in the clear waters right off the dock. These soaps didn't foam, but they did do a reasonable job of removing traces of oil and slime while rinsing clean and spot free.
One of the keys to an environmentally responsible wash is to use only a capful or less soap in your wash bucket. Suds, as impressive as they might be, don't contribute anything to the cleaning process.
"The officials are trying to prevent the runoff, with all of its soap, grim and metals from the car, from reaching rivers and streams and harming the fish and other aquatic life in them."
