Irrelevant.

D.C. gets a fair amount of money from the Federal Goverment, in addition to its own taxes.

Speeding is pretty much irrelevant in D.C. anyway, with or without cameras. It's 69 square miles of almost completely built-up city and constant traffic lights, with very few open roads except for I-295/395.

An iPhone with a speed trap-avoiding app? That's it, I'm getting an iPhone.

Agreed, hardly a drivers paradise.

Irrelevant, unless you like observing government waste. Yep.

Her statement proves without any reasonable doubt that the speed cameras and red light cameras are for money making measures.

She should be ashamed of herself.

The iPhone application should be applauded by all law enforcement agencies if "Safety" really is the number one priority.

just more BS from DC police chiefs, chiefs are nothing more than some political mouthpiece of the mayor. Like the Jersey City police chief complaining this weekend that pump shotguns were assault weapons

Loss of revenue is all she and the manufacturer of speed equipment care about.

The police saying it's about safety is a JOKE! It's all about the $$$. The Philly area on Rt. 1 blvd. made SO MUCH money from 4 red light cameras, they increased them to 10. The I-phone app. is great. It will always a cat& mouse game with tech. in all things.

Before you can say that, you would have to look at a number of factors, such as the accident rate on that stretch of road before and after the cameras were installed, the severity of the accidents that did occur, and number of injuries/deaths. To just come out and say, in blanket terms, that the cameras do not affect safety is not necessarily an accurate statement.
For instance, here in VA, we found that red-light cameras tended to lessen the number of T-Bone side-impact crashes but INCREASE the number of rear-enders. However, the rear-enders, in general, were much less severe than higher-speed side impacts, resulting in fewer injuries/deaths.
