Tell me which automaker actually pays attention to taillights? To me the new E-class has very plain looking taillights, and S-class has below-average looking ones. Continental GT and the upcoming XJ both have similar looking and ugly tailights. BMW 7-series has the taillights resembles the old Mitsubishi Diamante, which I found hideous. Ferrari and Corvette are always having four circular taillights, you call that design? But you don't see people complaining. I think all automakers wants to make a statement on the front, not the rear. Just like human being, all has similar butts.

The front end looks like something out of Detroit or Korea. The rear end is OK, taillamp treatment similar to the new RX.

The side profile, however, screams "economy car." This angle is the hardest to swallow for a $40k car.

DJ my posts in multiple threads don't defend the styling. I feel Lexus could have done a better job. I said in the first HS thread this styling won't help Lexus trying to sway Internet neatherthals who don't read or research but just bash Lexus for being Toyota.
Oh the GS does offer semi-analine leather now.
And why bish about luxury? It's not like it's pleather.
This car shows why Lexus is tier 1 and Acura is tier toilet. Lexus didn't just rebadge an avensis and call it a hs like Acura just rebadges a euro accord and calls it a tsx. This car shares no body panels and is a full hybrid and the interior is made from Eco plastics and is differnet. The tech offered in it is tops in class as is mpg.

The S is a prius witha nicer interor as fas as I am concerned. I know there are variations but it still seems to " toyota" to warrant that type of price

I actually don't think the HS looks all that bad, but then again I think the Corolla is pretty sharp for an economy car. I'm just saying that from the side, as evidenced by the photos, they share a lot of dimensions and styling cues.

And who said anything about Acura? Do we have to drag that brand through the mud on every single thread?

Aside from the side profile, I can't see how the HS look like the corrolla at all.

Exactly the point, proportions are not attractive on both cars.

At this stage of the "ultra efficiency hybrid" game, Toyota/Lexus feels the goofy high roof almost minivan style is all part of the hybrid image. I think it's intentional for intended market.

Lexus on Monday announced pricing for its 2010 HS 250h. The standard version will have a retail price of $34,200 (plus $875 for delivery), while the Premium model will carry a price tag of $36,970. Although the new hybrid sedan is slightly shorter than the IS, the HS 250h is intended to slot between Lexus’ IS and ES ranges.


The car was first unveiled at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, which was fitting since the annual event was the birthplace of Toyota’s luxury brand 20 years ago. The HS range marks new territory for Lexus and the luxury segment, as it is the world’s first hybrid-only luxury model.

The car received EPA-estimated ratings of 35 mpg city and 34 mpg on the highway for a combined 35 mpg utilizing regular gasoline. The HS’ .27 drag coefficient and heavy use of spoilers and diffusers help overall efficiency.

As with most Lexus hybrid nameplates, the HS’ 250 moniker slightly exaggerates what’s actually under the hood. The HS 250h does with a 2.4L four-cylinder, rated at 147 horsepower. Combined with the electric motor, total output is 187 horsepower. Although most high-tech engines require high-test gasoline, the HS 250h is fully capable of running on 87 octane.

Also keeping with the green theme, 30 percent of the HS’ materials are derived from plant-based materials, with 85 percent of the car being fully recyclable – including the batteries.

Not to forget the luxury part of its green title, the HS comes packed to the gills with plenty of luxury amenities, including LED taillights, a heads up display, power seats and Lexus’ new Enform telematics. Optional equipment includes satellite navigation with traffic, stocks, sports and weather updates and LED headlights. One cool feature of the HS’ navigation system is that it lets you upload destinations from any internet-enable device, ensuring you don’t miss any tourist spots on you next road trip.
