Default Lexus IS hybrid heading to Europe

The 2010 Lexus HS 250h will go on sale later this year in the U.S. with prices starting at $34,200; however, Lexus has ruled out selling its dedicated hybrid model in Europe. Instead Europe will get a hybrid variant of the Avensis and the Lexus IS.

I have to say the HS in red looks really good.

Lexus Europe is moving towards an all hybrid line-up. The LS460 is being discontinued leaving the LS600h, the new RX is sold as hybrid only already, the GS will be the 450h only and in the case of the IS, the diesel is being dropped for the next gen model, leaving a hybrid only option.

Default 3IS to get hybrid powertrain

Guys, egmCarTech got the news from an Autocar article based on a Lexus GB source. Here is the actual reference:

Interesting, I'd heard of the RX going hybrid only for the UK; and they have pushed the LS 600h quite a bit--I saw ads for the 450h in France and Italy during a visit a few years back. Guess the IS 220d did not pan out as much as they'd hoped? Anyhow with an IS hybrid coming that could obviate the 220d.

Current gen IS is not coming as hybrid, Avensis is instead.

Also new RX is offered with 3.5 V6 in most of the Europe due to pricing. Unfortunately petrol and diesels will stick around for a while so dont expect any hybrid only line up any time soon.

What I find funny is that RX450h is rated 39/37MPG in Europe for some reason

To be fair I did get my information on the dropping of the diesel and an all hybrid only range from Lexus GB and the MD of Lexus Germany, so you could be right.

The British use imperial miles per gallon, but yes, the UK system of fuel economy is testing is less strict than the EPA's.

The brits use the Impereal gallon compared to our u.s gallon. 5 imperial gallons equal 6 u.s gallons

feels to me that it has only been a short while since the 2IS has been out... i guess it just looks that modern and fresh that it ages very well

i wonder what the 3IS looks like and if the hybrid will use Li-Ion

Nope thats US MPG, I converted 6L/100Km for city and 6.4L/Km for higway. Check out Lexus.eu everything is there. Also they offer choice of Active Stabilizers or Air Suspension on RX450h but at the same time lack seat cushion extender and inteligent high beams compared to US spec.

Probably you are right that Euro testing is less strict compared to US
