Default Buying used car, amount of gas

How much of gas left did the previous owner left for you? I know gas prices gone down but it still kinda a hit for gas cause we have to pump premium gas. Just brought a car yesterday, the owner left almost an empty tank .

in my opinion, as long as they leave you with enough to get to the gas station, then they have fulfilled their obligation to you. You should have negotiated that with the sale if it was that much of a concern. To be honest, i would laugh in someone's face if they told me the sale of a car was contingent on a full tank of gas. but thats just me...

If you're upset over $30 in gas while buying a used car, you shouldn't be buying a car.

When I went to look at the SC I bought a few months back it had a little over half a tank. Picked it up the following week and it was almost past the "e" line. It hadn't been driven, just was stored so they obviously siphoned the gas out.

hmm u never heard of the sediments that sit below your tank have you? running on E is pretty bad and can mess up your fuel pump and fuel filter easy.

The dealer I bought my GS from put a little over 1/2 a tank (this was over a year ago when gas was high), he said they used to fill them but had cut back to 1/2 tank.

Most of the cars we take in on trade at the dealer I work at come in around 1/8 of a tank on average. People are understandably cheap in this regard.

As far as the used cars we sell, we deliver them with 1/2 a tank. I feel we should fill them up but gas expenses hit the books hard. New cars, of course, require a full tank (paid for by the automaker anyway).

Not a clue how much gas was in it.

But really, you're dropping some $XXXk on a car, and you want to have issue w. a tank of gas ... eeehhhh

Like one of the others said, so long as there's enough to get you to an acceptable service station ...

I find complaining about the amount of gas sort of like complaining about the amount left on the brakes. My brakes are a little over half used, but I'm not about to replace them becuase the next guy will also want to stop. He can replace them when he gets near the end or when ever he likes.

He can also get gas when ever he gets to the end of tank ... or what ever, I'm not putting gas in specifically for him.

If you are mad because of the cost, you need to move on. However, it would irk me in the sense that I needed to drive straight to the gas station. I think as a courtesy, they should have at least 1/4 tank at the sale.

that's a myth really.... the fuel pump always sucks fuel from the bottom of the tank whether the tank is full or empty. if sediment is the issue, the sediment is also at the bottom of the tank all the time since it's heavier than the gas. the sump of the fuel tank is where th efuel pickup is, otherwise you'd never be able to actually use the full tank of gas.
oh, and just to stay on topic, i dont care about how much fuel is in the vehicle when i buy it. if it's close to full, it's a bonus, if it's on E, well, that's fair because all the cars i have sold were on E when the buy drove away...
