Well group, the IS-F ultimately finished 3rd...
... out of 117 cars I drove, researched, or considered over the last 10 months.
The top 7:
7. 2009 Audi S5
6. 2009 Porsche Cayenne GTS
5. 2010 BMW 335xi
5. 2009 Inifiniti G37 coupe
3. <tie> 2009 BMW M3
3. <Tie> 2009 Lexus IS-F
2. 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Winner: see signature ($50,382 OTD, hard to beat)
Looks like I won't make this summer's meets, but perhaps in the fall...
I know I promised I wouldn't post until she was in the garage, but got my pricing today, the new Z was still too high ($77K OTD) and the Shelby still met my original criteria:
Reliable, mileage, back seats, daily driver, under $60K... and FUN!!! I went to $107K (Porsche C4S), still couldn't do it
My 03 Mustang GT was a blast, can't wait to get this one... should be here in time for Thanksgiving!!

The window sticker, as you note, may say 50K, but will the dealerships in your area actually let GT500s go at a reasonable price? Here, in the admittedly money-rich and high-sales D.C. area, I've seen them, just recently, marked up to as high as 82K at Ford dealerships. Same, more or less, with the Corvette Z06. That's why, when I did the 2009 Corvette review for CL, I did the standard Corvette model. I thought, despite the somewhat lower power, that it was a far better buy for the money than the Z06 or (especially) the grossly overpriced and virtually unavailable ZR-1. Base-model Corvettes here were marked down to below 40K in some cases....and that was before bargaining and incentives.
