Got a ride home from a friend, and while we were talking in front of the house her '96 4-runner just stalled out. Now it cranks, but doesn't start. Charge is strong, but I'm not hearing a fuel pump cycle when cycling the key. Does the fuel rail have a schrader valve to test flow/pressure?
96 4cyl 4-runner manual trans.
Any Ideas?
Oh well now she has an excuse to stay the night.

Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay. Toyotas don't have a Schrader at the fuel rail like domestics do - but a quick check can be done by looking at the fuel pressure damper screw - look for a black or gold-ish diaphragm looking thing that resembles a fuel pressure regulator but it has a screw in it, it the screw doesn't stick up you got fuel issues.

On edit it's a 97 4runner manual trans 2wd 4cyl. Where is the fuel pump relay on this truck. I took a look and the closest thing I could find was "EFI." Leaning pretty strongly to fuel pump/relay cause I got it to fire and I could hear the fuel pump, then the pump shut off, and the truck died.

EFI Main is the fuel pump relay. It's in the junction box under the hood on the driver's side in the middle closest to the fender. There's also a fuse inside the fuse box in the cab labeled IGN. It is the power source for the EFI main's contactor. There's also a circuit opening relay underneath the lower finish panel on the driver's side that could be the culprit. Both of these relays have to work or the fuel pump gets no power.
