I saw this on the Autocar site:

I'm sure they got a good deal off Lexus UK and it makes a change from the usual BMW 5-series, Volvos and Jags.
When I worked in Humberside the police used to run a number of Subaru Impreza WRXs, some with the back seats taken out and replaced with a dog cage and a German Shepherd. They'd chase car thieves and when they crashed or ran off, flick open the back door and set the dog after them.

i don't think they make that many do they? and if it's like other lexus manufacturing, the customers gets little or no 'choice' in color/options unless you want to order and wait a year.

Maybe for some in the US it takes up to a year, but not in Japan, and the custom-ordered ones for Norway's royal family, officials in Iceland, Monaco etc. didn't take that long...

The IS-F hasnt sold well in the US but you must admit some people are skeptical. and most people dont buy 65-70k lexus for performance. but using it as a police car seems kind of stupid and expensive. and heres a comment that makes complete sense. it was a comment on the article
"I really would like to see the report in which they justified spending $88k on a Lexus police car. Who are they trying to catch? Retired rich grandpas who are hooning??"

Actually the IS-F has sold on par with the M3 sedan, which has given Lexus execs cause to move forward or more -F models.
The other day I saw a Corvette police car here in SoCal, I guess they want to have their 'chase vehicle'.
