And now I feel stupid because I knew this all along and probably could've just added $50k/year to figure what one would need to purchase a $160,000 vehicle
And, i saw this somewhere on these forums but the average RX 400 h owner makes about $200,000 per year, but that's just a $40k vehicle. Doesn't mean you need $200k to afford 40k, just means that $200k/year guys seem attracted to the RX 400h for some reason haha.

Using percentages to see whether you can afford something is wrong IMO. Eg, someone who earns $100K a year and has 50% of that taken in cost of living will not be able to afford a $300K car IMO, however a person who earns $1 million a year and has 50% of that taken in cost of living will still be able to afford a $300K car and have $200K left over.
It is all about priorities, how much of your income you want save, spend ,what you want o spend it on ect, ect, and that is entirly up to you.

And really good point here as well, completely forgot when you get into the higher tiers talking about "percentage" falls apart haha.

this thread made me think of something....slightly off topic, but interesting nonetheless..
is it wrong of me to want to die pretty much broke? basically i want to spend all my money while i'm alive. i'm not irresponsible with my money at all, i own a house, have money saved, vehicles are all paid for, i don't waste money on stupid crap, etc.
i just don't see the need to die with a lot of money still sitting around. I have no kids nor will i, so that's not a concern.

I read some where that he bought his father , who was ill in the hospital, a new Rolls Royce drop head for 640k because it was the first in the states. Probably in the companies name but its still a nice gift and a huge tax deduction

Nope. Seems it's more like a few hundred. But of course, everything else is going to break on on it:
