The Boxster is a 2 seater, no questions. The SC at least you have the back seat for stuff.
There is no question that the SC is a great Luxury Grand Tourer. The Boxster is a flat out sportster.
We drove SCs for 5 1/2 yrs - first an 02 then switched to an 03. Loved it, the only change I made was to pull the Run Flats and put on Dunlop Direzza 101s. The difference was night and day and the car was much more enjoyable.
Over the July 4 weekend we took the Skip Barber Performance Driving school at Limerock, CT. We had the opportunity to Autocross in a Cayman (hardtopped Boxster). I was hooked.
The car is unbelievably stable when pushed to the limit. The car was flat on the track, suspension was extremely tight. It was neat watching the Cayman run with a Miata. The Miata suspension was working hard going through the turns, The Cayman was flat through the same course and made it look effortless.
The accelleration lag I'd experience in the SC is non-existant in the Boxster. At least with the 6spd manual. The gearbox is a joy to run through.
2 Very different cars, both a pleasure to drive. However, If you want performance my vote is the Porsche hands down.
The funny part of this deal was Lexus apparently developing an attitude. I got a call from my dealer that an IS250C came and asked me if I'd like to take a drive. Liked the car alot. I asked about them picking up my SC and my taking out an IS350C. I thought the extra 500 lbs of the drop top gave a noticeable lag to the car. The extra power of the 350 would probably be nicer in the convertible version. They didn't want to touch the SC because my lease buy out was basically at market. I called another Lexus dealer I've dealt with same answer.
By chance I stopped by Porsche expecting the same answer. They picked up my lease. Paid my property tax that was due and had 1.9% financing available. It was hard to say no, so I decided to buy instead of lease because of the financing. Apparently Porsche has financial problems and they are looking to sell cars.

Too bad the Lexus dealers couldn't work it out for you, your Boxster looks terrific, not a SC but still a great car. Thanks for sharing the comparison with us, stay in touch!
