AlexusAnja, i get your point, but it's not "simple design and engineering" - it's anything but simple. and companies do have trade secrets that are not easily reverse engineered by other companies. i don't believe it's "simple" for lexus to create bmw's combination of steering/suspension/brake/engine/transmission/chassis, any more than lexus could build a porsche or a ferrari (lf-a seems like a great car, but it's still not much like a ferrari). and on the flip side, i don't believe bmw could build a lexus rx either. close maybe, but not the same.
eventually a manufacturer has to learn their own path, through their own mistakes and successes.

We are not looking at the old ones that are no longer on sale right ? The old one took a few years(at least 4-5 model years) for it to get recommended(the early model years of the old 7-series were disasters). The new one seem to have some problems from we've heard, and hardly surprising ...
