1SICKBLOG III : Don't be a douche when you reverse park
#46
I'm of the opinion that, if they know how to do it properly, I don't have an issue with someone reverse-parking (I thought the term was "fancy parking").
But, the total douche-bags are the people who reverse park into ANGLED spaces. You know, the parking lots that are set up with the spaces at an angle, to make it easy to pull into, and pull out of? It's also the kind of parking lot where each lane is ONE-WAY! So, when someone reverse-parks into one of these spots, not only does he/she have to reverse the car at an insane angle to get into the spot, when he/she finally gets back in the car to leave, they're going THE WRONG WAY down the parking isle. DB'edness at it's finest.

So at a shopping area TODAY I have to go into this store. As I pull up I see two douches in a Maxima and G35 parked in two spaces like they are driving Mclaren F1s. You know Douche two space style.
So to join the douche brotherhoood, I decide to park in reverse but since I have sense and I'm not a ******** I park in between the lines, you know, how you are supposed to park.
The next part is nuts. I was sitting in the car talking on the phone watching Batman when I see 3 cars pull up. One is a huge Government Motors truck which pulls into the spot in front of me, big chrome wheels, magnet vents, you know the type.
I get out my car to throw my trash in the garbage can and go inside. As I am waiting in line I turn and look at the window.
Super-Government Motors-Douche decides that his parking spot is not good enough, so he struggles to REVERSE and park as close to 1SICKLEX as possible and squeeze between two cars b/c I have to reverse park too and show everyone my $3 Pep Boys chrome magnet fender vents.
I tally another loss of common sense for humanity...... I think I will start looking for prime CAVE real estate in the Carribean...a nice cove with internet access...

Well really you'd only be using half the spot he wasn't using and half the spot you ended up using anyway so nothing has done to waste... you just didn't let the guy's car get the breathing room he wanted it to.

I reverse park 90% of time. Like you, I take pride in reverse parking in one smooth motion so in order to keep that up, I reverse park whenever I can. Of course occasionally, I forget that I have to load stuff up in the boot lol. Heck, I take pride in being able to parallel park in one motion into any spot (as long as the car fits of course. I'm not gonna play bumper cars)

I had someone do that in a Ford Escort but it wasn't a reverse park, it was a head-first park. I came out of the supermarket later and someone left a note to the driver. "Learn how to park you SOB". I lol'd

I typically reverse park when I'm in those awkward moments where pulling into a space front first is not possible. The end result is me reversing in or losing the spot altogether to someone else. I reverse into my driveway 50/50 at home but it can be a pain doing so at night when you have dark tints on your windows like I do.

okay, in downtown the only parking spots that are free are the ones where you parallel. Im not going to lie, it takes me bout 2 times to get it right, would you guys be mad at me? hahahaha

Time for public transit
I had a thread with tons of pics showing the countless Honda/Acuras parked in double spaces but the morons logged in trying to dispute photos lol. I think we threw that thread away as it became a mess.

I hate idiots that just can't park at all.
The d-bags that take up more than once spot, park crooked, etc. are all obvious ones, but another one that gets me is when people put too much space between each other when parallel parking. It irritates the crap out of me when I happen upon a street with parallel parking (without meters) and there's like 4-5 ft between each car parked there. If everybody would pull up a couple more feet it would open up so many more spaces for more cars to park.
As for reversing in, I usually drive in, but like most others there are times where I will reverse in if I happen to accidentally pass it, where backing up could be a bit unsafe if the area is high car and pedestrian traffic. When I park at home I reverse all of my cars into my garage 100% of the time. I have three cars and a motorcycle and by reversing in I can put the outer cars closer to the wall and the middle car closer to one of the others, leaving enough room for me to park my motorcycle parallel with the cars and enough room to ride out of the garage without having to move a car.

Parking crooked or otherwise taking up two spaces isn't automatically a douche move IMO. If you park WAY in the back where no other cars would even want to park anyway then you can do that if you really have to.
With as many door dings as my 335i has suffered in the last 2 years since I got it I can really see why people get like this about a car they like. As long as they don't do it by taking other people's spaces.
