Yes and no. Some states are worse than others. New Jersey, Illinois, Louisiana, the District of Columbia, New York City, South Florida, and some parts of Texas have had a history of corrupton.

Among police departments, the Philadelphia police have also had a long, questionable history.

These kinds of stories make me sick. Did anyone hear about the officer that arrested a woman, drove her to a remote area and sexually assaulted her?

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/07/17/...ult/index.html

The article reads that the crime carries a MAXIMUM PENALTY of 10 years ... that is an absolute outrage in my opinion. If we, as a society, empower a group of people to have control over our public lives (the police) then that empowerment needs to work both ways and when an officer breaks the law, and especially when he violates public trust, especially with malice, he needs to be put away FOREVER.

Why do we treat officers like gods? As far as I'm concerned, the officer that pulls me over is just as much a danger to me as anyone else interrupting my life; I should probably demand HE be searched (by a judge, with a sociologist on hand, and at least 2 impartial witnesses at least one of which is videotaping everything) and interrogated for potential wrongdoing before ever allowing him to do the same to me.

We all should. Law enforcement in this country is COMPLETELY out of control.

For those officers that follow the law, do not abuse authority, understand the difference between letter and spirit, etc, I applaud your efforts at fulfilling your mandate.

That doesn't change the validity of what I said...or, IMO, merit an lol. Some places are worse than others.

In a case like that, DNA evidence would be very useful.

Law enforcement in this country is COMPLETELY out of control.
Lawnessness by the public is even worse. For every scofflaw the cops get, a thousand never get caught. Look at driving, for example. How many speeders, red-light-runners, DUI's/DWI's, and cell-phone-users never get caught? That's why so many do it...the chances of getting caught are very small, unless you have an accident. Red-light and speed cameras, though, are starting to change that.

For those officers that follow the law, do not abuse authority, understand the difference between letter and spirit, etc, I applaud your efforts at fulfilling your mandate.
Most cops are in that category...........but they don't make the news. It's the few bad apples that get the publicity....and news stories.

Even here on CL, for example, how many posts and discussions do we have about GOOD cops? Almost without exception, it is about the few dishonest ones.

True, if it had any validity. lol, IMO. Yes, some skies are bluer than others.

It's amusing that you are correcting or verifying with the Yes and No, lol.

Some issues are not simply a matter of black and white. When those cases arise, I try to make that plain.

The whole issue started with the comment that corruption seems to be "everywhere". I simply pointed out that some states......and areas.....are worse than others, and tried to name some of the worst areas. Perhaps (?) that took the thread a little off-topic, into an unnecessary conversation. If so, fine.....I'll drop the issue (and the lol issue ) if you do.
