The logic that americans wont be seen in a minivan, thus will not buy a wagon doesnt really make sense to me. Toyota and honda both sell a gazillion siennas and odysies, I myself have a sienna.

However, there is a problem with luxurious minivans when it comes to americans, ala R class, and wagons

I agree with you on the subject of minivans and on the silliness of allowing "image" to dictate one's buying decision (I have posted at length on that subject numerous times), but the problem with the R-class (and the simliar Chrysler Pacifica) goes beyond image. The 2+2+2 seating in both vehicles is rather awkwardly designed, and does not make for easy entrance/exit for the third-row rear occupants. And neither vehicle has a sliding side door, like minivans do, to make entry in and out of the rear any easier.
