Default Lexus/BMW drag race ends in crash

Bunch of idiot kids. They don't say what kind of Lexus it was or provide pictures. 11 year old is in critical condition after the BMW spun around and hit a hit a van tail first.

FRANCIS BOULEVARD (WABC) -- Several people hurt after an apparent drag race in Queens ended with a frightening crash.
Among the victims -- an 11-year-old boy.
The accident happened at the corner of Francis Lewis Boulevard and Weeks Lane.
Eyewitness News is told the driver of a grey BMW lost control, collided with a Lexus and then careened into a white van.
Police say the two cars were drag racing while headed southbound on Frances Lewis Boulevard.
The BMW clipped Lexus -- that set in motion a catastrophic series of events.
The BMW reportedly spun around backwards and into the van -- ripping apart the car.
Police had to cut down a tree to get through the wreckage.
And also gave the driver of the Lexus, a 16-year-old, a breathalyzer test. Although, Eyewitness News is told it came back negative.
The three people riding in the BMW are in the hospital.

The driver who is 18-years old
An 18-year-old passenger
And an 11-year-old who was riding in the back.
The child was severely injured and is in critical condition.

"......The car started to spin, then it started to do a couple of 360's and went right into the white van. He was probably doing 60 or 70 mph," one witness said.
The four involved in the crash are all related. Eyewitness is told they are all cousins.
The 16-year-old that was driving alone in the Lexus should've never been doing that. Because of his age -- by law he must have someone else in the car.
He is being questioned by police.

Good thing there were no innocent bystanders injured in the crash. The drivers need to get their asses whacked in jail.

So does the BMW get a "DNF" and lose by default?

That's because the average radio/TV reporter doesn't know cars like we do. But, in this case, the wreckage on the BMW is so bad that even experienced people like us would probably find it hard to indentify it from the distance those shots were taken. But by the look of the front headlight/hood/grille segment, it appears (?) to be an older-generation 3-series. The BMW was so badly torn up (so much for German safety-roll cages) that I'm surprised the van didn't have more damage on it.

It's bad enough, of course, that the moron 16 and 18-year olds were hurt so bad, but I feel especially bad for the poor 11-year old. While I hope all three make it (especially the 11 year-old).....and the two older ones learn a SERIOUS lesson from this. They, IMO, should not be allowed to drive again until they are at least 21. Let them walk for a couple of years.....provided they recover enough to do so. And good luck getting insurance.

Default Wait til' your father gets home!

The kid getting the breathalyser took a head shot from his aunt that could be heard in Brooklyn. She was at the scene and gave him the blow whilst he was in the middle of some on-camera diatripe about the accident. I don't know if the blow was delivered to shut him up or a small taste of what's awaiting him at home.

In New York you can get a Learners Permit at sixteen, but must have an adult with a valid drivers license in the vehicle with proof of registration and insurance.

Many states have implemented a graduated license for teens that have restrictions that are lifted as the teen gets older and maintains a clean driving record. As Martha would say "That's a good thing."

Were you at the scene and witnessed it? That was not mentioned in the article.

It's hard to tell if it is a good thing or not. If a young teen can't drive several of his or her friends around in a car as a driver, then he, she (or they) may just all take up cramming into a car driven by someone who is a little older and doesn't have those restrictions. But they're still out running around, and (maybe) getting into trouble either way.
