I really think they took a huge step backwards with the styling on the new legacy. I really like the 05-09 Legacys!

Thinking about it, Subaru finally became modern with the CVT replacing the 4 spd. in the Legacy. However, 5 speeds has been outdated for several years now and finally Acura even has a 6 speed auto. So I'm looking at the 3.6L Subarus with 5ATs going they are out of date. Sure, they are not the only 6 cylinder out there offering 5 speeds. Nevertheless, I can't help but wonder why with Toyota offering their 6AT with front, rear, and all wheel drive vehicles that said transmission couldn't go in a Subaru. Even if it cost a few hundred more.

If a 5-speed is done right, with correct ratios and spacing, you probably don't need any more gears, although one more wouldn't hurt. I do agree, however, that 4-speed overdrives are unsuitable.....to fit in an overdrive top gear, the ratios are too widely spaced......especially between 3rd and 4th.

5-speeds, though, aren't always done right either. The one in my Lexus IS300 was too narrowly-spaced in the lower 4 gears, and that left too wide a ratio between 4th and 5th.

Toyota and Subaru engines are of radically different design and mounting. What works with one, transmission-wise, will not necessarily work with the other.

I think the last generation looked better as well, but the fatter fenders on this new model will lend for some aggressive looks with after market wheels and a drop. I have images of a black series benz.... well maybe not that crazy
