Porsche 911 GT3 RS Launched
August 19th, 2009
This is what Porsche is calling “the most sporting 911 yet”: the new GT3 RS.
The homologation special is fitted with the same 3.8-litre flat six as the GT3, but it has 444bhp instead of 429bhp, making it 35bhp pokier than the old RS.
See the full Porsche 911 GT3 gallery
The latest GT3 RS gets wider tracks at the front and rear (aided by extended front wheel arches) and a huge carbonfibre rear wing with aluminium supports.
The naturally aspirated engine, which has a specific output of more than 113bhp per litre, is mated to a low-ratio, short-shift six-speed manual gearbox.
A lithium ion starter battery will be available instead of the standard unit, reducing the kerb weight by 10kg.
Porsche is clearly aiming to make this one of the wildest 911s ever, with bright decals all over the bodywork.
The GT3 RS goes on sale in the UK in 2010, priced from £100,760.

Nice! Never understood the previous RS version as all the reviews I read showed no significant performance gain if any at all. Hopefully this model changes that.

ok now THAT's a door. the whole discussion on the new infiniti M about curves or not (i said it was overdone there) - this isn't overly busy with curves but isn't plain either - it just looks like EXCELLENT quality and design to me. ![Thumb Up](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Agreed. Porsche is another great example of a brand/maker that achieves great design cohesion. All of the lines and curves on the door are cohesive and not out of place. Also, the materials on the door are not overdone and fit well with the general design theme of the car.

porsche designers have always been the laziest designers in the business but they also go by the motto if its not broke dont fix it

There are no ridiculous curves or character lines that lead to nowhere. You're right, if it's not broke, don't fix it. Porsche exteriors are very cohesive design-wise, and they haven't messed with that which is a good thing IMO. I don't see it being lazy, I see it being smart. Even Audi has barely changed the basic style of it's sedans during the past 20 years. Many Audi models do look the same or similar, but almost all Audi designs are very cohesive.

Looking at the doors of the HS and RX, Lexus could learn a few things.
