a 335i twin turbo is already incredibly fast and powerful. if you need (want) more power, get an M3.

the conflict between consumer desires for performance and good fuel economy and regulatory laws around both mean that cars necessarily get more and more complex and 'unfathomable' by almost all but the manufacturer and increasingly well trained dealer service personnel.
this will continue and will slowly kill off not only 3rd party mods, but small 3rd party service shops too which may get replaced with independent 'chains' that shell out for expensive training and equipment.

BMW doesnt seem to realize that the increase in sales these days are due to the modability of these cars and a lot of yound buyers are putting up the cash.... if they limit them from modding the cars ... could have a adverse effect on the tuner market.. ultimately a decrease in sales... may be they will have few warranty claims.. but as a manufacturer who is all about performance should not be a hypocrite ... any which way thier cars fail in stock/brand new form... maybe they ought to pay more attention to making reliable cars first before they go knocking the wall down on the tuners!!

IMO, the trend already started years ago. Most of the high performance premium cars (including the luxury coupes and sedans) are plenty fast as delivered from the factory. So most of the customization/mods have been focused on wheels/tires/suspension which are mostly visual changes to the high performance look.

Is there any such thing as traditional "race gas" anymore? Most forms of racing have either converted, or are in the process of converting, to alcohol, nitro, E85, or other alternative fuels for safety reasons.....straight gas is considered too volatile and dangerous.
When I flew piston-powered aircraft some years ago, 100 Octane low-lead Avgas was still available (dyed a light blue to help detect water bubbles in the aircraft's fuel tanks...you always checked the tanks with a fuel drainer-**** before a flight). But even that, as I understand it, is being phased out for new grades.
